Estranged Wife Asa Ellerup Attends Court Hearing of Suspected Gilgo Beach Murderer

Asa Ellerup, wife of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann.

Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuermann, made her first court appearance at his routine hearing in Long Island on Wednesday. Ellerup, who recently separated from Heuermann following his arrest, has expressed her intention to attend all future court dates.

Heuermann was arrested in July for the alleged murders of three sex workers, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello, whose remains were discovered on Long Island in 2010. He has pleaded not guilty to these charges. Additionally, he is a prime suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, although charges have not been filed in this case, with investigations still underway.

Ellerup, who filed for divorce six days after Heuermann’s arrest, has reportedly signed a contract with a production company, as stated by her attorney. The purpose of Wednesday’s court session was to resolve scheduling matters between the attorneys.

In a statement to ABC News in July, Ellerup shared the emotional impact of the arrest on her family, mentioning that both she and her children have been struggling to cope with the situation.

Heuermann is scheduled to return to court on February 6, where Ellerup plans to be present to observe the proceedings and evidence firsthand.
