Escaped Jefferson County Detention Facility Inmate Arrested in Commerce City

Jeremy Buchanan, a 42-year-old man who had escaped from the Jefferson County Detention Facility, was apprehended in Commerce City after nine days on the run. Buchanan had initially been arrested on June 2 on charges including first-degree motor vehicle theft, violation of a protection order, and possession of a controlled substance.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), Buchanan managed to escape from the detention facility on September 30. While working in the facility’s kitchen, he exited through a supply room and left the building via a delivery door. Buchanan then scaled a fence used for deliveries to make his escape.

On Monday, Buchanan was located inside a 5th-wheel trailer on East 53rd Place in Commerce City. The JCSO Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the Commerce City/Brighton SWAT Team, Commerce City Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Safe Streets Task Force, and Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit, successfully took him into custody.
