The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill issued an emergency alert on Monday after reports of an armed individual on or near the campus premises. According to WRAL News, the individual was inside a campus building when shots were fired.
In response, university police advised students, faculty, and staff to stay indoors, lock windows and doors, and follow directions from emergency personnel. The vicinity of the bell tower has been cordoned off, and Chapel Hill transit buses have temporarily ceased operations. Campus sirens sounded as a warning, with an “All clear. Resume normal activities” message to follow once the threat is neutralized.
