Eight Arrested in Salt Lake City Following Months-Long Investigation into Shootings

Salt Lake City Police have apprehended eight individuals after conducting a months-long investigation into a series of shootings in the city and Salt Lake Valley. The arrests were made by the SLCPD’s Gang Unit, which executed multiple search warrants and recovered substantial evidence. Among those arrested were Lucas Madrill, Riley McNeil, Omar Alejandro Fuentes-Soriano, Jinedi Suber, Denzel Sencion Hurberg, Zinedine Tovar, Alex Yescas, and an unidentified 16-year-old male.

According to the police, this gang is believed to be responsible for approximately 15 shootings in Salt Lake City and several more in the surrounding area. The investigation also uncovered a large-scale illegal THC distribution syndicate. McNeil, Hurberg, and Fuentes-Soriano are accused of purchasing THC cartridges from Madrill, their alleged supplier, and distributing them to customers. Tovar and Yescas are connected to the alleged trafficking, and additional charges may be filed.

During the operation, law enforcement seized over $350,000 worth of THC cartridges, eight handguns, $30,000 in cash, and other pieces of evidence. The SLCPD emphasized that further arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.

The charges against the individuals involved vary. Madrill faces charges of unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, failure to comply with a law enforcement officer’s command, and aggravated assault. McNeil is charged with firearm possession by a restricted person and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Fuentes-Soriano faces charges of firearm possession by a restricted person, distributing a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana/spice. Suber is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and possession of marijuana/spice. Hurberg is charged with distributing a controlled substance, firearm possession by a restricted person, and failure to comply with a police officer’s command. Tovar is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and Yescas is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and failure to comply with a police officer’s command.

Chief Mike Brown commended the officers and detectives involved in the investigation, highlighting their commitment and courage in pursuing justice. He stated that the case would disrupt criminal activity and enhance community safety. The SLCPD’s Gang Unit, consisting of highly trained officers and detectives, collaborates with other divisions within the department to prevent gang and gun violence through education, prevention, and enforcement.
