East Palo Alto Man Arrested in Connection with Palo Alto Street Robbery

Authorities have apprehended a 36-year-old East Palo Alto man in connection with a street robbery that occurred over three weeks ago in Palo Alto. The Palo Alto Police Department announced the arrest on Thursday morning, shedding light on the incident that took place on February 7 in the 700 block of De Soto Drive.

According to the police department’s news release, the victim, a woman in her 60s, was sitting in her car in the driveway of her residence, engrossed in her phone, when an unidentified man approached her. The suspect, who had one hand concealed under his sweatshirt, allegedly pointed an object at the woman and demanded her purse and phone. Fearing for her safety, the victim complied and handed over her belongings. The suspect swiftly left the scene.

Subsequently, officers discovered the discarded phone in the vicinity and returned it to the victim after conducting fingerprint analysis. The investigation revealed that a fingerprint lifted from the phone matched the suspect’s, leading to his identification. Warrants were obtained for the suspect’s arrest, and the Palo Alto Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team executed the arrest at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Thursday. The suspect was taken into custody at his residence in the 1600 block of Bay Road.

The arrested individual has been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of robbery and a felony probation violation. At the time of the alleged robbery, the suspect was already on probation in the county for a prior conviction of possessing narcotics in a jail, as stated by the police.

A search of the suspect’s residence yielded no weapons or evidence related to the robbery, according to the police department.
