Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has stepped forward to cover the funeral expenses of Jarvon Coles, a high school football player from North Shore High School in the Houston area, who tragically lost his life in a suspected drive-by shooting. The incident occurred during a party at a short-term rental property in Humble, Texas, where Coles was found with a gunshot wound to his chest.
According to reports, Hurts, who attended rival Channelview High School, has taken it upon himself to pay for Coles’ funeral. This act of generosity was confirmed by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Coles, a promising student-athlete with a remarkable 4.1 GPA, had been accepted into 15 different colleges and had plans to play football at Lamar University.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez revealed that the shooting was a deliberate act, with the assailant or assailants firing shots towards the house party from a vehicle located a block away. Approximately 50-60 individuals were present at the gathering, as stated in the report by KHOU.
Braxton Coles, Jarvon’s grandfather and guardian, expressed his grief and urged parents to keep a close eye on their children, emphasizing the difficulty of protecting them from all harm. Describing his grandson as a remarkable individual who always wore a smile, Braxton Coles shared his devastation with the outlet.
DaMeko Williams, a former football teammate of Coles, spoke highly of his character, highlighting his positive demeanor and lack of involvement in any conflicts. Kyle Herridge, an assistant offensive line coach at North Shore, also paid tribute to Coles, acknowledging his significant impact both on and off the field.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for Coles’ untimely death.
