Driver Arrested for DUI After Colliding with Light Pole in Santa Rosa

A driver was apprehended for driving under the influence (DUI) in the early hours of Thursday morning after colliding with a light pole, resulting in its collapse, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Responding to a report of a vehicle crash at approximately 3:48 a.m., officers from the Santa Rosa PD arrived at the 1200 block of W. Steele Lane. The incident was brought to their attention by a concerned member of the community who promptly dialed 911 to report the collision.

The witness informed the police that a light pole had been knocked down and observed the driver of the vehicle walking away from the scene. Providing crucial information, the caller assisted the officers in locating the driver, who was found on Range Avenue. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Burns from Santa Rosa, the officers immediately noticed clear signs of intoxication.

Further investigation revealed that Burns had a blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%. As a precautionary measure, he was taken to a nearby hospital for medical clearance before being booked into Sonoma County Jail.

The charges against Burns include driving under the influence, as well as the destruction of public property due to the collision with the light pole. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with driving while impaired and the potential consequences that can arise from such actions.
