Drake Bell Speaks Out on Alleged Sexual Abuse in Nickelodeon Docuseries

Drake Bell, former Nickelodeon child star, has come forward with allegations of sexual abuse in an upcoming documentary series titled Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. In the four-part show, set to premiere on March 17 and 18, Bell reveals the frequent abuse he claims to have suffered at the hands of former dialogue coach Brian Peck.

Bell, known for his roles in The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh, alleges that the abuse began when he was just 15 years old. Peck, who was 26 years older than Bell at the time, reportedly infiltrated Bell’s life, attending his concerts, hosting his birthday party, and inviting him on trips to Disneyland. According to Bell, the abuse took place at Peck’s Los Angeles home, where he would often spend the night after auditions.

The former Nickelodeon star states that he felt trapped and helpless, lacking the means to drive himself to auditions and relying on Peck for transportation. Peck would allegedly apologize and manipulate Bell’s inner circle to maintain their trust. Bell’s father and manager, Joe Bell, grew suspicious of Peck’s relationship with his son, leading to a strained relationship between father and son.

Bell kept the alleged abuse hidden from his colleagues and cast members, fearing the repercussions of refusing to go to Peck’s house. However, the situation eventually came to light, and Peck was arrested in August 2003 on charges of lewd acts with a child. In May 2004, Peck pleaded no contest to two charges of child sexual abuse and was sentenced to 16 months in jail, subsequently registering as a sex offender.

The documentary series also sheds light on the alleged toxic work environment within Nickelodeon shows, including those produced by Dan Schneider. Former crew members claim that Schneider requested massages, while a cast member from Zoey 101 alleges that Schneider hypersexualized scenes. Nickelodeon has stated that they investigate all formal complaints and prioritize the well-being of their employees and audience.

Since the abuse charges, Bell has faced personal struggles with mental health issues and substance abuse. In 2010, he was convicted of driving under the influence, followed by a second DUI arrest in 2015. In 2021, Bell was sentenced to probation on child endangerment charges after accusations of explicit messages and sexual contact with a teenage fan. He denies the allegations but acknowledges his self-destructive behavior.
