Decade-Old Oregon Cold Case Resolved: Father Charged in Infant’s Death

Over a decade ago, Portland Police discovered a deceased infant, dubbed “Baby Precious,” at a recycling center. The child’s identity remained a mystery for years. However, in 2019, the cold case unit, with the aid of forensic genetic genealogy, identified a relative which led them to the baby’s parents. The child was named Amara.

This month, 53-year-old Alnath Omar Oliver, Amara’s father, was indicted on charges including second-degree manslaughter and third-degree rape. He is currently detained in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Police Chief Chuck Lovell expressed gratitude for the persistence of investigators and hoped this revelation would aid the community’s healing. The specifics surrounding Amara’s death and Oliver’s involvement remain undisclosed.
