Alex Murdaugh, a convicted murderer, has been sentenced to an additional 27 years in prison for a series of financial crimes. The sentence was handed down yesterday after Murdaugh accepted a plea deal. Over a span of 10 years, officials state that Murdaugh embezzled more than $12 million from former clients.
Murdaugh expressed a desire for a lighter sentence, but his victims argue that he did not need to resort to stealing from them. One victim stated, “You stole from me when you could have simply asked, and I would have given it to you if that’s how I felt about you and your family.” Murdaugh, already serving two life sentences for the murders of his wife and son, acknowledged that the agreed-upon sentence is harsher than he had hoped for.
