Colorado Police Chief Placed on Leave Amidst Shocking Rape Allegations at His Home

The city of Ouray, Colorado, has placed Police Chief Jeff Wood on administrative leave following disturbing allegations of rape that took place in his own home. The incident, which occurred during a party in May 2023, involved Wood’s stepson, Nate Dieffenderffer, and three other men.

Dieffenderffer, along with Gabriel Trujillo and Ashton Whittington, stands accused of subjecting a 17-year-old girl to a nightmarish gang rape after she passed out from intoxication. According to an arrest affidavit, Dieffenderffer initiated the assault, while Trujillo and Whittington took turns violently abusing the victim. Shockingly, Wood’s DNA was found on a sweatshirt belonging to him, which the survivor had grabbed after waking up naked the next morning.

Wood claims to have been unaware of the rape allegations until two months after the incident. However, the victim alleges that the police chief was present in the house throughout the horrifying ordeal, sleeping soundly while she endured hours of torture.

The city of Ouray has not provided specific reasons for Wood’s administrative leave, but it comes in the wake of an attempt to suppress the story. Just over a week ago, local restaurant owner Paul Choate stole hundreds of copies of the Ouray County Plaindealer, which had published a front-page article detailing the accusations. Choate, who seemingly has no connection to the police department or the individuals involved, claimed he committed the theft to protect the victim.

The case has sent shockwaves through the community, with many residents demanding Wood’s resignation. The city has stated that Wood will remain on leave until the outcome of the criminal proceedings against his stepson and the other accused individuals.

This committee would consist of members from diverse backgrounds, including legal experts, community leaders, and representatives from organizations that advocate for victims of
