On Friday evening in Cincinnati’s West End, a shooter discharged 22 rounds into a crowd, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old and injuries to four minors and an adult. The Cincinnati Police Department confirmed the shooting occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m.
The young victim, identified by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office as Dominic Davis, was declared deceased on-site. Among the injured were a 53-year-old woman and four juveniles, ages 12 to 15. By Sunday, the majority of the wounded had been treated and released from the hospital, with one individual maintaining stable condition.
During a press briefing, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Preval addressed the event, indicating that the West End community was reeling from the loss. He emphasized the swift and shocking nature of the shooting, highlighting the lasting emotional impact it would have on the neighborhood’s youth.
Chief Teresa Theetge of the Cincinnati Police Department issued a direct plea to the suspected perpetrators, advising them to surrender to the authorities and warning that law enforcement would relentlessly pursue their apprehension. She admitted that the motive behind the attack, whether random or deliberate, remained undetermined.
Amid the community’s outcry, Isaac Davis, father of the deceased, appeared at the press conference with his family, appealing to the attackers’ conscience and lamenting the frequency of such devastating occurrences, questioning the ceaselessness of community violence.
