Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has surrendered to authorities in Texas following the issuance of an arrest warrant related to a multi-car crash in Dallas. Court records have confirmed that Rice turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department after being charged with eight crimes, including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault. The charges stem from a crash that occurred on March 30 on U.S. Highway 75 in Dallas, where Rice was allegedly driving a Lamborghini SUV and Teddy Knox, an SMU receiver, was driving Rice’s Corvette.
Each of the charges against Rice, all of which are felonies, carries a $5,000 bond, resulting in a total bond of $40,000. The most severe charge, aggravated assault, could lead to a sentence ranging from two to 20 years in prison, along with a fine of up to $10,000, as per Texas law. Rice, who is no longer in custody according to a representative from DeSoto Regional Jail, has taken responsibility for his actions and expressed his commitment to rectifying the situation.
The crash involved six vehicles and left four people injured. Both Rice’s Lamborghini and Knox’s Corvette were reportedly traveling at high speeds and lost control, leading to the collision. Following the incident, both drivers left the scene, and marijuana was discovered in both vehicles. Additionally, authorities found credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain, and a playbook for the Chiefs.
Knox, who has been suspended by SMU, is facing the same charges as Rice. SMU has released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations but is unable to provide further details due to federal student privacy laws.
