Brutal Slaughter of Wild Burros Shocks Las Vegas Valley, $10,000 Reward Offered

In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, nearly two dozen wild burros were ruthlessly shot and killed near the Las Vegas Valley. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is now seeking the public’s help in identifying the culprits responsible for this heinous act. Offering a substantial reward of $10,000, the BLM’s California branch has released crucial information and photos of two vehicles of interest in the case.

The vehicles in question are a gray or silver 2008 Toyota extended-cab pickup with flared fenders and a brush guard, and a white 2008 Toyota extended-cab pickup with a white camper shell, white rims, sunroof, and brush guard. These vehicles were last seen on the morning of August 13, 2019, in the parking lot of Whiskey Pete’s Hotel and Casino in Primm, Nevada.

The lifeless bodies of the 19 wild burros, protected under federal law, were discovered along Interstate 15 between Primm and Baker, California. The BLM revealed that the burros were mercilessly killed using a .30-06 caliber rifle. Disturbingly, the person or persons responsible for this act used reloaded ammunition marked with red/orange paint on the bottom of their cartridges, according to special agents.

This tragic incident is not an isolated one. Wild burros, despite their federally protected status, have been targeted for killings in the past. In July 2023, the National Park Service reported the shooting and killing of five burros in Death Valley National Park. Similarly, in May 2018, 13 burros were found shot to death on public land near Beatty in Nye County.

The BLM and law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with information about this case to come forward. If you have any details that could lead to justice for these innocent animals, please call 909-987-5005 or visit wetip.com. Your assistance could be instrumental in bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing further acts of cruelty against these majestic creatures.

The Las Vegas Valley community is appalled by this senseless act of violence, and the BLM’s reward serves as a testament to their commitment to protecting wildlife. Let us stand together against such acts of cruelty and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law.
