Brett Favre to be Questioned Under Oath in Mississippi Welfare Fraud Lawsuit

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is set to be questioned under oath on October 26 in a civil lawsuit filed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. The department alleges a statewide welfare fraud scheme and seeks to recoup millions of dollars. The Mississippi Supreme Court previously ruled against dismissing Favre from the lawsuit. Although Favre has not been criminally charged in connection with the scheme, he is among more than three dozen individuals and entities named in the civil suit.

Favre’s deposition will take place at Hotel Indigo in Hattiesburg, starting at 9 am on Thursday, October 26. The deposition is expected to continue “day to day until completed,” according to a court filing. The notice also states that the deposition will be recorded by stenographic means and may be video recorded.

Favre’s attorneys have maintained that he did not receive any financial benefit from the transfer of money involved in the alleged welfare fraud scheme.
