Black Man’s Arrest Captured on Video Prompts Internal Review by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal review after a video captured a traffic stop involving a handcuffed Black man, Le’Keian Woods, who had swollen eyes and a bloody face. The incident occurred in northeast Florida on Friday. The agency stated that force was used during Woods’ arrest and that an administrative review is underway to determine if any policies were violated.

The video, released by Woods’ attorney, Harry Daniels, shows at least three officers on top of Woods, who is seen lying on the ground beside a car. One officer appears to slam Woods’ head into the ground. After being handcuffed, Woods is propped up against an officer’s legs and appears unable to sit up on his own. Later, he struggles to stand up.

According to Daniels, Woods was taken to a hospital for treatment of a severe concussion following his arrest. In a statement, Daniels expressed concern over the officers’ actions, stating that Woods looked as if he had been in a boxing match.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office refrained from providing further comments due to the ongoing investigation. Woods is currently in custody on charges including armed trafficking of methamphetamine and cocaine, armed possession of a controlled substance, resisting an officer with violence, and violation of probation.

The incident comes after a racially motivated attack in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Jacksonville, where a white man killed three Black individuals at a Dollar General store.
