Arrest Warrant Issued for Wife of Slain Haitian President in Ongoing Assassination Investigation

A leaked legal document has revealed that a Haitian judge investigating the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse has issued an arrest warrant for his wife, Martine Moïse. The warrant, dated October 25 and signed by Judge Walther Voltaire, states that authorities are seeking to interview Martine Moïse about the case. While the document does not suggest any involvement on her part, it raises questions about her potential knowledge of the events leading up to her husband’s tragic death.

Since the assassination that took place in July 2021 at the couple’s private residence, Martine Moïse has been recovering from her injuries in the United States. Her unexpected return to Haiti less than two weeks after the incident surprised many. While residing in the U.S., she has occasionally taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her thoughts on the assassination. In December, she hinted at the perpetrators’ fear of being held accountable, stating that their “reign of impunity and untouchability seems to be coming to an end.” This month, she reiterated her call for an international tribunal to investigate the case, emphasizing the need to repair the social injustice inflicted upon the Haitian people.

The arrest warrant for Martine Moïse comes amidst an ongoing investigation that has faced numerous setbacks. Judge Walther Voltaire, who was appointed in May 2022 to oversee the case, is the fifth judge to take on this challenging task. Previous judges have stepped down, citing concerns for their safety, and one left shortly after the mysterious death of one of his assistants.

The investigation has seen more than 40 suspects arrested, including 18 Colombian soldiers and at least 20 Haitian police officers. However, progress has been slow within Haiti, while U.S. authorities have made significant strides in prosecuting extradited suspects. In Miami, four out of 11 suspects have already pleaded guilty, including a retired Colombian army officer and a former Haitian senator.

As the case continues to unfold, the arrest warrant for Martine Moïse adds a new layer of intrigue and raises questions about her potential involvement or knowledge of the assassination plot. The Haitian people, still reeling from the loss of their president, eagerly await answers and justice for this heinous crime.

  1. This is absolutely appalling! How can a judge issue an arrest warrant for the wife of the late President Jovenel Moïse without concrete evidence? It reeks of injustice and a desperate attempt to shift blame onto an innocent woman who has just lost her husband in a brutal assassination. This leaked legal document only adds to the chaos and confusion surrounding this tragic event. It is a disgrace to see the judicial system being used as a tool for political vendettas rather than seeking the truth and delivering justice
