Cary Brown, 28, has been arrested in connection with a fatal highway crash that claimed the life of Joel Quintana, a 42-year-old father of six. Brown has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident. The incident occurred on the Henry Hudson Parkway in New York City.
According to the police, Quintana was traveling south on the highway when a speeding gray BMW collided with his motorcycle at approximately 10:57 p.m. He was then struck by a black Mercedes-Benz that was following closely behind the first vehicle. Investigators suspect that the two cars were racing at the time of the collision.
Quintana was rushed to Harlem Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after the crash. Brown, who was driving the Mercedes-Benz, allegedly abandoned the vehicle that night. Detectives identified the owner of the car, who claimed to have loaned it to Brown. Brown was apprehended on a warrant early Thursday.
The driver of the BMW involved in the incident remains at large. The NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad is actively working to locate and apprehend the second suspect.
Quintana, a manager at a business on the Upper East Side, frequently used his motorcycle for commuting. His family described it as his therapeutic activity. Quintana’s son had warned him about an earlier accident on the same highway just hours before the fatal crash. This was their last interaction before Quintana’s death.
Brown’s arraignment is pending as of Thursday.
