Arizona Cardinals’ Marquise Brown Faces Criminal Speeding Charge, Clouding Team’s Season Outlook

Title: Arizona Cardinals’ Marquise Brown Faces Criminal Speeding Charge, Clouding Team’s Season Outlook

In a stunning turn of events, the Arizona Cardinals’ hopes for the upcoming NFL season have taken a hit as wide receiver Marquise Brown finds himself facing a criminal speeding charge. With star wideout DeAndre Hopkins already slated to miss the first six games due to a suspension, Brown was expected to step up and fill the void as the team’s leading receiver. However, his recent off-field troubles have caused a major setback for the Cardinals.

The departure of Christian Kirk, who joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, further amplified the need for a standout wide receiver in the Cardinals’ lineup. In a bold move, the team traded their 2021 first-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens for Marquise Brown, Baltimore’s top wide receiver from last year. It was a calculated move to bolster their offense, but now their plans have been thrown into disarray.

Details of the incident emerged through body camera footage, revealing that Brown was clocked driving at a staggering 126 mph in a 65 mph zone. Caught off guard, even the arresting officer couldn’t help but question, “The hell you going that fast for?” Brown’s excuse of being on his way to football practice didn’t sit well with the law enforcement officer, emphasizing that he should have known better.

Criminal speeding in Arizona is defined as exceeding 85 miles per hour in any capacity, driving 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, or driving over 35 miles per hour in a school zone. The consequences for such an offense can range from court-ordered driving school or a terminal disposition to fines, probation, and even jail time.

While Brown managed to escape a fine earlier this year for the same offense, this time he might not be as fortunate. A class 3 misdemeanor, criminal speeding carries a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail, a $500 fine (plus an 83 percent surcharge), and up to one year of probation. However, given Brown’s clean record and lack of prior arrests or significant traffic violations, it is unlikely that he will face the maximum penalty.

As news of Brown’s arrest broke, the Arizona Cardinals swiftly responded by reporting the situation to the NFL office, as required. The team released a statement addressing the incident, promising to provide further comments as more information becomes available. Whether the NFL or the Cardinals will take additional disciplinary action remains to be seen.

The Cardinals now find themselves grappling with multiple issues as they head into the 2022 season. Without the services of DeAndre Hopkins for the first six games and Marquise Brown’s legal troubles, the team’s outlook appears rather murky. Coupled with public concern over quarterback performance, the Cardinals are facing the possibility of becoming one of the most dysfunctional organizations of the year.

While it’s still early in the season and anything can happen, the Dolphins and the Commanders, among others, may also vie for the title of the most beleaguered team in the league. As football enthusiasts await further developments, it’s clear that the Arizona Cardinals have a challenging road ahead. Only time will tell if they can rise above the adversity and find success on the field once again.
