Allegations of sexual assault have been made against Christian Ziegler, the chair of the Florida GOP, according to a report by the Florida Center for Government Accountability. The report alleges that Ziegler sexually assaulted a woman who was allegedly involved in a consensual three-way sexual relationship with him and his wife, Bridget Ziegler, the former chair of the Sarasota school board and co-founder of the parents’ rights group Moms for Liberty.
The incident under investigation by the Sarasota police occurred when Christian Ziegler and the woman were alone at her house, without Bridget Ziegler present, according to sources close to the investigation. Sources also indicate that a search warrant was executed on Christian Ziegler’s cell phone, and investigators are conducting a forensic examination of the device. It is alleged that Ziegler secretly videotaped the sexual encounters between the couple and the woman.
The allegations come at a time when Bridget Ziegler’s term as Sarasota school board chair has ended. She has listed her accomplishments in a recent Facebook post, including the termination of “Gender Diverse Guidelines,” the elimination of the “Equity” Committee, and the elimination of the “equity” policy and position.
Neither Christian Ziegler nor Bridget Ziegler have commented on the allegations. The report obtained through a Freedom of Information Request for information involving Christian Ziegler has significant redactions, with only the words “raped” and “sexual assault complaint” visible.
The Leadership Institute, where Bridget Ziegler now serves as a vice president, has been a sponsor of Moms for Liberty conferences for two years running. Ziegler has also been praised by Florida governor and presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis.
Please note that the allegations have not been independently verified by Mother Jones, and the investigation is ongoing.
