Affidavit Reveals 6-Year-Old Accused of Shooting Teacher Boasted About Incident

According to a recently released affidavit, a 6-year-old boy who allegedly shot and injured his teacher in January boasted about the incident. An employee reportedly overheard the boy telling the police, “I shot the bitch dead. I did it.” The incident occurred at Richneck Elementary, where the boy is accused of bringing a firearm into the school and pointing it at first-grade teacher Abigail Zwerner while she was reading to the class. Zwerner sustained a gunshot wound to her hand and chest.

Local prosecutors have deemed the boy incompetent to understand the legal process due to an “acute disability.” He is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility. Deja Taylor, the boy’s mother, said she kept the gun concealed at the top of her dresser in a lock box with a trigger lock on. However, the boy confirmed to authorities that he obtained the gun the night before the incident.

An attorney representing Taylor mentioned that the boy is still undergoing therapy and expressed hopes for his continued improvement. Meanwhile, an ongoing investigation is examining allegations that staff members at the school were warned three times about the boy carrying a firearm but failed to prevent him from entering Zwerner’s classroom with it.
