Joseph Gatt, known for his role as Thenn Warg on the HBO show “Game of Thrones,” appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday to face charges of engaging in sexually explicit chats online with a minor. The 51-year-old actor arrived with his girlfriend, actress and writer Mercy Malick, who has been by his side throughout the legal proceedings.
Gatt had been arrested in April 2022 on an outstanding felony warrant related to “contact with a minor for a sexual offense” in Los Angeles. He was released on a $5,000 bail. During his court appearance, the presiding judge, Enrique Monguia, announced that the case would continue on December 4th, as additional discovery was required for the proceedings to progress. Prosecutor Michael Fern stated the need for further evidence.
The charges against Gatt stem from an arrest made 18 months ago when his home was searched by the Juvenile Division’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. In addition to the charge of “contact with a minor for a sexual offense,” Gatt also faces a second charge of felony possession of an assault weapon. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Under his bail conditions, Gatt is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors, possessing pornography, and using social media, except for work-related purposes.
On Twitter, Gatt vehemently denied the allegations, stating that they were “absolutely horrifying and completely untrue.” He expressed his cooperation with the police and the Los Angeles Police Department to resolve the matter and clear his name. Mercy Malick also took to social media to defend Gatt, describing the allegations as “beyond insane” and expressing gratitude for the support they have received.
