Actor Jonathan Majors, known for his role as a supervillain in a Marvel franchise, is set to appear in a New York City courtroom today as a defendant in a domestic assault trial. The trial will revolve around allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, who claims that Majors assaulted her during a taxi ride in Chinatown earlier this year.
According to Manhattan prosecutors, Jabbari will testify that Majors attacked her after she snatched his cellphone away upon reading a text message that suggested infidelity. Prosecutors allege that Majors yanked her finger, twisted her arm, hit her ear, and threw her back into the cab when she tried to follow him out. Initially, Majors was also charged with choking Jabbari, but the charge was later dropped due to lack of evidence.
Majors, who has pleaded not guilty to six misdemeanor assault and three misdemeanor harassment charges, maintains that Jabbari was the aggressor. His lawyers claim that Jabbari scratched and grabbed at his face, causing injuries that drew blood. They have also released video footage that they argue casts doubt on the severity of Jabbari’s injuries.
Jabbari is expected to testify later this week, and her credibility will play a crucial role in determining Majors’ fate. The trial has garnered attention due to the unusual circumstances surrounding Jabbari’s arrest for her role in the altercation. Majors’ lawyers have accused prosecutors of targeting him because of his race and claim that evidence of his innocence has been withheld.
Jonathan Majors has appeared in court wearing double-breasted suits and has been accompanied by his new girlfriend, actress Meagan Good. It remains unclear whether Majors will testify in his own defense.
