2-Year-Old Boy in Rodeo Dies from Prolonged Abuse, Two Arrested for Murder

A 2-year-old boy in Rodeo, California, died on Monday from injuries sustained from prolonged abuse, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. Initially reported as a drowning incident, the county later revealed that the child’s death was a result of abuse. Two individuals, Destiny Deboe, 22, and Tyshawn Haywood, 21, have been arrested on charges of murder in connection with the child’s death.

The District Attorney’s Office also stated that another child under the care of Deboe and Haywood suffered life-threatening injuries from abuse. Both suspects are currently in custody awaiting arraignment. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a child drowning in a bathtub on Monday evening in the 300 block of California Street. The boy was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The District Attorney, Diana Becton, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized the commitment to seeking justice and holding those responsible accountable for their actions. Deboe and Haywood are being held on a bail amount of $1.07 million.

Neighbors had expressed concerns about possible abuse before the District Attorney’s Office confirmed the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects face charges of murder, felony infliction of injury to a child, and torture.
