19-year-old man, Ralshief Richardson, was the victim of a shooting in Richmond, Virginia. shot and killed at a GRTC bus stop on Richmond Highway just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arriving at the scene, Richmond police found Richardson, who had been shot, lying at the rear door of the GRTC bus. He was pronounced dead at the site.
Authorities mentioned that Richardson was about to board the bus when the fatal shooting occurred. Tarnechia Richardson, the victim’s mother, said her son was returning home after working an overnight shift and described him as respectful, hardworking, and caring. The family has requested privacy and prayers.
Richmond Police have initiated investigations, interviewing potential witnesses and gathering video footage from nearby businesses and GRTC bus cameras. GRTC, in a statement, expressed their condolences to Richardson’s family and clarified that no GRTC passengers or employees were involved or harmed during the incident. Due to the close proximity of the event, the bus was temporarily taken out of service.
Detectives believe there were passengers on the bus during the shooting who might have left the scene. They are encouraging these individuals to come forward with any information.
Charles Willis of United Communities Against Crime, a local resident, highlighted the incident’s gravity, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the crime and the disruption it caused in a bustling area. He received calls from several traumatized witnesses and stressed the shooter’s disregard for other lives, including those on the GRTC bus.
A funeral service for Richardson is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Mimms Funeral Home in Richmond.
