19-Year-Old Fatally Shot by Motorcyclist on 10 Freeway in Covina

A tragic incident unfolded early Saturday morning on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Covina, as a 19-year-old driver was shot and killed by a motorcyclist. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the assailant, riding a black Harley Davidson-style motorcycle, fired multiple shots into the passenger side of a white Chevrolet Camaro, resulting in the death of the young driver. The victim has been identified as Alexander Espino, a resident of Bloomington in San Bernardino County, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office.

The CHP received a distress call at 2:16 a.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Fortunately, a male passenger in the Camaro escaped unharmed and managed to guide the vehicle to the Via Verde Street offramp before contacting emergency services. Tragically, Espino was pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

In order to conduct a thorough investigation into Espino’s untimely demise, the CHP temporarily closed the freeway, causing significant disruption to early morning commuters. The route was reopened around 8 a.m. on Saturday.

CHP investigators are currently working to determine the motive behind the shooting and are actively searching for the suspect. They urge any witnesses or individuals with additional information to come forward and assist in the investigation. Those with relevant details can contact CHP investigator M. Prado at (626) 338-1164, as stated in the official release.
