19-Year-Old Charged in Atlanta Road Rage Shooting That Left Mother Dead

A 19-year-old suspect, Javonte Scrutchins, is in custody following an apparent road rage incident in Atlanta, Georgia that resulted in the death of a 31-year-old mother, Desiree George. Atlanta police arrested Scrutchins on Monday and he is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail without bond. He faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, robbery, second-degree cruelty to children, and firearm-related offenses.

George, who was visiting Atlanta for Labor Day, was shot and killed on Browns Mill Road with her 7-year-old son in the car. A witness reported hearing the child screaming for help. George’s funeral took place last weekend. Her brother, Charles George, expressed the family’s grief, saying the loss to “a senseless crime” has taken a significant toll.
