17-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot by Long Beach Police During Standoff

Long Beach police have revealed that a 17-year-old boy was killed during a standoff with officers last month. The incident occurred on the night of April 26, when police responded to a call reporting a male intruder armed with a gun who had broken into a residence on Cerritos Avenue. The suspect demanded items from a teenager and two adults present inside the home, according to a statement released by the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect in the yard of the residence and believed him to be armed. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, officers engaged in verbal negotiations for over an hour, while a SWAT team was called in and prepared to intervene. However, before the team could act, an officer shot the 17-year-old boy, striking him once in the upper body. The teenager was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities recovered a replica firearm from the scene, confirming that the weapon brandished by the suspect was not a real firearm. The identity of the deceased teenager, who hailed from San Bernardino, has not been released.

The Long Beach Police Department has confirmed that officers involved in the incident were equipped with body cameras. Once the footage has been reviewed, it will be made available to the public. Additionally, it has been revealed that there was an accomplice involved in the home invasion, who managed to flee before the arrival of law enforcement. Iskay Mota, an 18-year-old from Modesto, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently held at the Long Beach city jail on $100,000 bail.
