16-Year-Old Charged with Murder in Deadly Bronx Subway Shooting

A 16-year-old has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on a Bronx subway platform earlier this week. The teenager was apprehended by investigators on Thursday, following his previous arrest in April 2023 for attempted robbery, as confirmed by U.S. Marshals.

Authorities have also questioned a 14-year-old who was injured in the incident as a possible shooter. The police believe that the shooting was gang-related and are actively searching for additional suspects. According to law enforcement, the victims were primarily innocent bystanders.

The tragic incident unfolded on Monday around 4:30 p.m. when shots were fired as the northbound 4 train arrived at the Mount Eden station. Six individuals were struck by the gunfire, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Obed Beltran-Sanchez.

Expressing their determination to combat such senseless acts of violence, U.S. Marshal Ralph Sozio stated, “Gang violence such as this senseless shooting resulting in death and injury to innocent citizens of the City of New York waiting for their train to get home will not be tolerated. We will use all the resources at our disposal to find you and bring you to justice to make our streets safe again.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation. Tips can be provided to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish speakers, at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
