A 12-year-old girl was stabbed by another 12-year-old inside Pathways College Preparatory School, located within the same building as I.S. 192 The Linden, in Hollis, Queens on Wednesday afternoon, according to the police. The incident occurred around 11:50 a.m., resulting in the victim sustaining a stab wound to her left hand. She was promptly transported to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where she is currently in stable condition, as confirmed by authorities.
The alleged perpetrator, also a 12-year-old student at the school, was taken into custody and is considered a “person of interest” in the case. The Department of Education spokeswoman, Jenna Lyle, stated that the school was placed on hold following the incident, which involved students. Lyle emphasized that the safety and well-being of the students are of utmost importance and assured that additional emotional support would be provided to those in need.
Although the school does not typically have metal detectors, the NYPD conducted a thorough scan of students already present in the building to ensure no weapons were present. This precautionary measure was taken in response to the stabbing incident.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another school-related violence case, where a 14-year-old boy was slashed in the chest during a fight with a 13-year-old student outside M.S. 246 Walt Whitman in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The injured teenager initially sought refuge inside the school before being transported to Kings County Hospital Center, where he is now in stable condition.
