11-Year-Old Girl Dies in Cupertino Collision; Driver Arrested for DUI

An 11-year-old girl tragically lost her life last week as a result of injuries sustained in a collision that occurred in Cupertino, according to South Bay authorities. The incident took place on April 27 at approximately 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Foothill and Stevens Creek boulevards. Three other children, aged 8, 7, and 4, were also injured in the accident but have since been treated and discharged from local hospitals, as confirmed by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brooks Jarosz.

The young girl, whose identity is yet to be officially released pending notification of her next of kin, was pronounced dead on May 1 shortly after 5 p.m., as stated by Jarosz. The county Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will disclose her identity once it is confirmed.

The collision occurred when a silver Mazda pickup truck, driven by a 38-year-old Cupertino man, collided with another vehicle and subsequently struck a power pole. Tragically, the impact also resulted in the four children, who were on the sidewalk at the time, being hit by the vehicle.

The driver, who has been identified as the aforementioned 38-year-old Cupertino resident, was arrested and subsequently booked into county jail on charges of driving under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is currently awaiting the results of the suspect’s toxicology report, as stated by Jarosz. Once the investigation is concluded, the gathered information will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
